4:00 PM The Los Angeles Japanese Music Ensemble with Guest, Terry Nguyen
The LA Japanese Music Ensemble will be performing Japanese folk songs from throughout Japan. LA Japanese Music Ensemble will feature Shih-wei Wu on shakuhachi (Japanese end-blown flute), Yuki Yasuda on koto (Japanese zither), Jamie Low on shamisen (Japanese banjo), and guest performer, Terry Nguyen on sanshin (okinawan guitar) and taiko. Formed in 2015 by taiko drummer Isaku Kageyama, LA Japanese Music Ensemble consists of four dynamic Los Angeles based artists that share with their audiences, the beauty and the appreciation of traditional Japanese music. By combining storytelling, history and music, the ensemble bridges the Japanese tradition with modern sensibility to make their work accessible to all. The ensemble has previously performed at the Nissei week festival, Toyota corporation, Boeing and Japan Airlines. In 2016, the group collaborated with Japanese calligrapher Ohba Shoran to perform for the Consul General of Japan.
